Words can't even convey how awesome Oktoberfest was. And I know everyone tweets and talks about how great it is, and it annoyed me too. How much fun can you possibly have drinking beer all day in a tent, right? Wrong
There were 14 tents set up, that each held 3,000-4,000 people. But they weren't even tents, they are decorated warehouses, and each has a different theme, and serves one beer. We were some of the first people in line the first day we went, at 7:30AM. But come 10:00AM when the tent opened, the line was already a mile long. By 11:00AM, the tent was full and you wouldn't be able to find a seat. The first table I was at I met two girls from Switzerland that were wicked nice. We all ordered a beer (1 liter, 10 Euro) and kept talking to different people and danced on tables to the live music. They also had a full menu of meals you could order, which most people did, but we just stuck to vendors that walked around with GIANT pretzels and bagel sandwiches. The Germans really like their carbs, because not only at Oktoberfest, but also every street corner, were people selling giant pretzels, bagels, croissants, muffins, and loaves of fresh bread.
Anyways: Outside the tents were a bunch of touristy shops, and hundreds of rides. Basically, you had 3 types of people: the native Germans who go to Oktoberfest and enjoy it all (order meals, drink beer, and go on rides), families that came to sample everything, then all the tourists whose only goal is drink as much beer as humanly possible, stumble out of the tent, take as many Instagram pictures of the festival as they can, and pray to God you can find your way home on the subway.
Oktoberfest was one of my most expensive trips for sure, but will probably be my favorite for sure.
these waitresses carried 9 of those giant steins at a time..
